FREQUENTLY ASKED Q’S

  • Our studio provides access to 6 clays by Kentucky Mudworks: Iceman, Speckled Turtle, Eklhorn Red, Sheltowee, Brown Bear, and Roo. These can be purchased by the bag for $37-41 per bag. This includes your firings (no lustre firings).

If you’re buying clay to use in your own studio at home, you can purchase it for the standard price, which is $10 less. :) That does not include firing here at the studio. Firing privileges are for members!

  • Yes! We welcome other clay bodies, but it must be approved ahead of time to make sure it is compatible with the kiln.

You may supply your own clay that can be fired to Cone 6. (Please note, there is a difference between Cone 06 and Cone 6!) If you do, there is a $10 firing fee per bag.

We recommend Portland Pottery Supply! They’ll help you pick the right one!

  • Yes! We do resale of Kentucky Mudworks Clay bodies including:

    • Elkhorn Red

    • Roo

    • Speckled Turtle

    • Iceman

    • Sheltowee

    • Brown Bear

We can special order mid-fire porcelains or high-fire bodies as well. The price of clay depends on the body.

You can purchase it by the bag (25 pounds) in a range of $28-30 per bag.

Porcelain, of course, is a little more expensive.

  • Yes! We offer Amaco glazes and underglazes by the pint. If you’d like to special order anything, we can place that for you.

Pricing depends on the glaze and typically ranges from $23-$50 per pint.

We also have underglazes for sale if you’re looking for those.

  • Yes, as long as the glaze is approved! We fire to Cone 6 (not to be confused with Cone 06).

If your glaze is a mid-fire glaze, you’ll be all set. Just let us know what it is before you use it.

We also have some studio glazes. Currently we have: clear, three blues, brown, gray/tan, green, two yellows, and a pink. This rotates as they run out! Studio members choose the next color.

  • Nope! We’ve got the basics covered. If you need anything fancy or want your own tools, then yes. We have wooden and metal ribs, trimming tools, sponges, wire tools, and wooden knives along with an assortment of hand-building and sculpting tools including some textures and stamps.

Once you know how you like to work/make, I always recommend building out your own tool kit so you have consistency and don’t have to share.

  • Whatever you want! Our kiln is only so big, but since members are buying their own clay, we don’t have limits on the size of things you make UNLESS it is getting a bit excessive. Then we might ask you to pitch in extra for the kiln firings because they consume a lot of energy.

  • Yep! Let us know at least 7 days before the next billing cycle (which is on the 1st of the month), so we can cancel your subscription for you. If you cancel or pause your membership, you will need to remove items from your shelf so someone else can use it.

You cannot cancel your membership mid-month. Once the month begins, you’re in for the full 30-31 days!

You can resume your membership anytime you want!

  • Know your way around a studio? Awesome! Submit a portfolio of work (send us some photos) so we can see what you’re up to and make sure you’re good to go. Then we’ll onboard you with a studio tour and walk you through the website so you can start booking hours.

New to clay? No worries! You can take a series of private lessons until you’re able to

  • We are an 18+ with members. You may sign up if you’re a minor, but you will need a responsible adult joining you while you attend as a member. That adult does not need to book a class spot for themselves if they don’t want to participate, but they must be present with you whenever you’re using your member hours. It’s just a liability thing.

We do accept ages 10-17 if there is an adult present unless it is a KIDS class.

EFA funds can be used toward memberships with us.

  • Yes and no. As a member, you have access to a certain amount of shelf space in a shared area!

The clay vessels you’re working on can absolutely stay at the studio! We have special shelves where they dry and one of those shelves will be labeled with your name.

If you run out of room, you’ve gotta take stuff home or move it through the process.

  • Nope, but you can enjoy non-alcoholic beverages if you want! We have a fridge stocked with Ollipops and a tea station as well (for members only).

  • Sorta! Some tasks can be really time-consuming: large sgraffito, detailed carving, detailed painting, etc. These tasks can feel better at home, and I totally get that! You don’t want to spend a whole month of hours carving one vase!

Members are expected to do most of their work at the studio, otherwise it’s a little unfair to others and the to the kiln.

You can totally do those detailed tasks at home, but be aware of your hours. If you’re using all of your hours and doing a lot of work outside the studio, it’s time to up your membership. If you do a lot of glazing at home, but don’t use all your hours by the end of the month, don’t be frustrated that you have “unused” time.

  • You’re in luck! We don’t currently have a waitlist.

  • Hours do not roll over! Your count starts over at the start of every new cycle.

Your membership starts on the 1st of the month! If you join for the first time in the middle of the month, you’ll have a funky first billing, but it will be the 1st of the month from then on.

  • Use up all your studio time? No prob! You can buy extra hours for $15/hour.

  • Yep! Members are allowed to sell approved items in the shop. I take a 10% commission to help with card fees, packing materials, and accounting. You’ll get a check in the mail at the end of the month if anything sold!

We can also use this income to credit your account if you’d like to put it toward your membership.

We sell mostly ceramic items, but are open to other home goods if it is hand-crafted and fits the vibe!
